Nucor is the first major industrial company to join this global effort, which is aimed at accelerating the decarbonization of the world’s electricity systems to mitigate climate change and ensure access to clean and affordable electricity.
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA, April 26, 2023 – A coalition of steel companies and industry partners founded by Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) and five other organizations released for comment today a draft global standard to measure and report carbon emissions from steel companies. The Steel Climate Standard, which was developed by the Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC), offers a single, technology-neutral protocol that would apply equally to all steel producers globally.
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA, June 1, 2023 – Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) announced today that it has signed an agreement with ExxonMobil to capture, transport, and store carbon from the company’s direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in Convent, Louisiana. ExxonMobil will capture up to 800,000 metric tons per year of CO2 from the DRI plant and store the CO2 at an ExxonMobil-owned facility in Louisiana.
CHARLOTTE, N.C., November 13, 2023 – Today, Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) announced Net-Zero science-based greenhouse gas (GHG) targets for 2050 and established a new interim target for 2030. These GHG intensity targets are defined by the Global Steel Climate Council’s (GSCC) “Steel Climate Standard”, an ambitious standard that aligns with the Paris Climate Agreement’s emission reduction goals for the steel sector by 2050, and with the International Energy Agency’s “Net Zero by 2050: A Roadmap for the Global Energy System” glidepath (IEA NZE).
