For over 50 years, Nucor has pioneered the circular steelmaking industry by using electric arc furnaces (EAF), recycling scrap into new steel. EAFs melt up to 100% recycled scrap metal to make new steel as steel can be infinitely recycled without compromising quality. Unlike the traditional extractive steelmaking process, Metl-Span sources the majority of its steel from electric arc furnaces (EAF)* as of 2024. Nucor steel products are made from an average of 77.3% recycled content, with some products containing almost 100% recycled content. EAFs have revolutionized the steel making industry, paving the way for a greener economy.
