First Phase of a 21-Acre Mixed-Use Project

In the heart of Madison, Wisconsin sits Madison Yards, a 21-acre, mixed-use development that will drive a much-needed uptick in housing to the area. The complex includes more than 300 upscale residential units, 11,000 square feet of retail space, a central green space, and a 50,000-square-foot Whole Foods. Other amenities include lounges, a business conference room, private chat rooms, mail and package areas, a fitness center, a game area, a private dining room, a club room, an exterior lounge, and a rooftop deck.

The bulk of construction took place in the heart of the Wisconsin winter with tight deadlines. To meet the demands, the project team needed a building envelope solution that would allow for a simple and quick installation and one that would provide a superior thermal barrier to withstand the region’s harsh winter climate.

 Metl-Span delivered on all fronts.

“The Metl-Span system was able to provide a solution that made our jobs on site very easy,”, said Jacob Wenger, president at Wenger Construction, Inc. “Selecting an insulated metal panel meant less difficulty on our end from an installation perspective, but we still got the high-quality performance we were looking for.”

Design Depicted

The design team specified a design that featured a grey façade with blue accents, and Metl-Span’s CF Architectural panels provided the perfect aesthetic. Crews installed 20,000 square feet of CF Architectural flat wall panels in Pacific Blue and 35,000 square feet in Smoke Gray.

Welcome Home

Crews broke ground on Madison Yards in the Fall of 2022 and completed construction in Spring of 2023. Future phases will include more housing, an upscale hotel, additional office space and a medical office.

Chosen each year following a survey conducted by Metl-Span teammates, the Building of the Year program honors the innovative work and collaboration amongst architects and other construction professionals to bring compelling, smartly designed, energy-efficient buildings to life.

As the winner of the “Building of the Year” competition, Madison Yards will be featured on the cover of the 2024 commemorative book developed by Metl-Span that will be distributed to sales representatives, customers, industry professionals, and Metl-Span teammates.
