First Distribution Hello Fresh Distribution Center Breaks Ground in the Southeast

Hello Fresh, the nation’s largest meal kit delivery service, is rapidly growing across the United States. The new 210,000-square-foot distribution center in Newnan, Georgia, became the first distribution center in the Southeast region and a piece of the company’s larger growth plan. The new distribution center adds more than 750 jobs to the community, while increasing the distribution rate to customers across the region.

To ensure safe storage and packaging of meal kits, architects and developers need a cold storage solution for the building envelope to consistently maintain temperatures inside the building. They were also under tight time constraints. Metl-Span provided a solution for both challenges.

What’s Inside the Box?

The project timeline required an interior box-in-box construction inside an existing building shell with quick, easy installation to finish the project on a fast-paced schedule of three months.

“The tight schedule we were working with for this project was a major component in our insulated metal panel choice,” said Vince Free, President of FREEZ Construction. “We needed a product that could be delivered on time and installed quickly.”

The project team selected 4” CF Mesa insulated metal panels in White Poly for the new cooler and cold dock envelope. Crews installed more than 150,000 square feet of panels in a ten-week period.

 CF Mesa can be used for both internal and external cladding solutions, in a variety of widths and thicknesses, making them ideal for any cold storage application. The double tongue and grove joint on the Mesa panels results in concealed fastening, which brings a more aesthetically pleasing look to the exterior of the building. The flattened appearance of the Mesa panel creates an easily washable surface to keep the building looking visually appealing.

Being able to deliver this solution in a time crunch is ultimately what sets Metl-Span apart. The project team needed quick deliveries and installation in order to be in their building on time, and we were able to deliver.

The new Hello Fresh distribution center opened in late 2020.
