Metl-Span Reduces Landfill Waste By 650 Tons Per Year

The insulated core is composed of the most thermally effective insulants commonly available today.
IMPs have a high environmental impact when numerous single use items are being discarded in the landfill on a regular basis, with Styrofoam (EPS) and plastic packaging wrap typically being the two largest contributors to this impact.
In September 2024, Metl-Span began participating in a one-of-a-kind plastic renewal technology program by taking mixed stream plastics and recycling them into a single output that is used to make new products. By doing so, plastic waste that may have ended up in a landfill or incinerator can now be converted into new, circular products
to be used again.
When running at full scale, our lines can produce over 5,000 pounds of plastic by-product waste per day, waste that was traditionally sent to the landfill for disposal. Although this slightly increased the waste loads’ shipping costs, we were able to negotiate the rate for the plastic that will be sent off for recycling from 52 to 50 dollars per ton. This plastic recycling has the potential to reduce our landfill waste by 650 tons per year, all while providing valuable savings.
